Dr. Eric Berg received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1988 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, after studying pre-med at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside from 1983 to 1985 and serving in the Army Reserves, where he was trained in X-ray technology.
National-Lincoln School of Postgraduate Education; Southern California College of Chiropractic; International Scoliosis Research Center; Risk Management, Louisiana Union of Chiropractic; and Motor Vehicle Collision Injuries, LUCP, provided additional advanced and speciality academic training.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
Dr. Berg passed parts I, II, and III of the National Board of Chiropractic Examination, earned the Certificate of Proficiency in Chiropractic X-ray, became a board-certified chiropractor in Virginia, California, and Louisiana, and was certified in Microscopy, live blood cell analysis, and diagnostic interpretation of neuro-selective current perception threshold.
Interests in Philanthropy
Dr. Eric has given substantial personal resources—in time, money, and broad public outreach—to philanthropic organizations that share his passion for wellness and healing over his many years in the public eye as a recognized authority in the science of nutrition. The Bergs and his wife, Karen, give generously to the public nationally and internationally through dieting and fitness education.
Achievements
Dr. Eric Berg served over 40,000 patients in his 30 years of chiropractic practice in Alexandria, Virginia. He also conducted internal and external seminars for government organizations such as the Library of Congress, the Federal Communications Commission, the National Institute of Science, and the FBI.
Dr. Berg hosted annual Keto Health Summits, most recently in Washington, DC, between 2017 and 2019 (when the pandemic paused such large public gatherings). Annual attendance quickly grew to 1,000 physicians, diet coaches, healthcare practitioners, and a slew of keto-dieters sharing extraordinary wellness stories and dramatic weight loss. Many nationally renowned speakers, experts in keto diets and metabolic health, were featured at the gatherings.
Dr. Berg's work has been featured in many popular magazines and TV and radio programs, including Channel 9, CBS Nightly News, and Channel 8 News.
Dr. Berg has taught his methods, techniques, and scientific findings to over 2,500 health professionals. He is a key figure in raising awareness of the role that ketogenic diets and intermittent fasting can play in promoting health and wellness.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Dr. Eric Berg's passion for health pervades his life outside the Berg Institute, particularly in his hobbies and interests. "I am constantly searching for underlying reasons why people get diseases—become it's a hobby," he says. His personal experience overcoming the effects of overwork and overeating as "the meat and potatoes kid" fueled his passion.
His new understanding of nutrition had finally revived his energy and ability to keep up with his wife Karen's busy life and their three active children by the age of 32.
Eric's free time is now one of his most valuable but scarce assets. Playing his handcrafted guitar and working with Karen to create new, enticing health-infused kitchen creations provide him with inspiration and relaxation.
Dr. Berg now lives on a picturesque farm where he researches growing nutrient-dense food and nutrient-dense animals. Karen agrees that everything in the kitchen came from the earth.
